 Statement on grave violations of school children in Nigeria

The International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers – otherwise known as Red Hand Day – is our annual reminder that children are being recruited and used in armed violence.

With months of programming, logistics, and finance meetings behind us, staff from the Dallaire Institute’s Halifax headquarters made our way to join colleagues from the United States, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Mozambique and Rwanda in Kigali for our annual symposium.

For millions of innocent children around the globe, the world is increasingly dangerous and cruel.

The visit of the Dallaire Institute’s team provided an opportunity to begin engaging with the Colombian Government and other stakeholders, to explore avenues for collaboration.

The Dallaire Institute expresses its concern on the deteriorating security situation and escalation of violence in Sudan and emphasizes the need for the parties to the conflict to engage in a constructive dialogue that is focused on prioritizing the protection of children from exposure to armed conflict and violence.

In its newly released annual report covering April 2022 - March 2023, the Dallaire Institute outlines the progress made toward achieving its strategic priorities in the first year of its current strategic plan.

The Dallaire Institute recently released a report on the preliminary findings of a multi-phase research project with veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces exploring The Effects of Exposure to Children in Armed Conflict During Military Service.

The Dallaire Institute hosted events to mark International Women’s Day in three countries: Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
