With less than a month to go until the G7 Leaders' Summit in Kananaskis, a coalition of over 40 prominent individuals and global and national organizations today called on Prime Minister Carney to seize a historic opportunity to position Canada as a global leader through a new G7 Education, Peace, and Security Initiative.

The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Defense in Colombia to increase the prevention of the recruitment and use of children in armed violence as a central aspect to building sustainable peace in Colombia. Today, trainers from the Dallaire Institute’s Latin American Centre of Excellence begin the first course for members of Colombia’s security forces.

As armed violence and conflict continues to escalate in the Upper Nile State in South Sudan, the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security calls upon all parties to the peace process in South Sudan to prioritize children’s protection as central to achieving lasting peace and security. The recent developments jeopardize the progress achieved in implementing the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and threaten national peace.

A peacekeeping mission might not be politically feasible, but there are other ways to protect civilians

On September 17th, The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security hosted a day-long workshop to spotlight the essential, yet often underrecognized role of women leaders in addressing critical peace and security challenges affecting children.

The workshop provided an in-depth exploration of the academic and technical aspects of peace and security through two panel sessions moderated by Dr. Julie Hyde, Director of Research and Knowledge Mobilization and Madeline Zutt, Policy and Advocacy Manager, both from the Dallaire Institute.

The Dallaire Institute expresses its concern on the deteriorating security situation and escalation of violence in Sudan and emphasizes the need for the parties to the conflict to engage in a constructive dialogue that is focused on prioritizing the protection of children from exposure to armed conflict and violence.
